1. At Kärcher, responsibility for environmental protection begins with the board of management. It defines environmental policy and represents this policy internally and externally.

2. In our operating principles, environmental protection ranks very highly. We take into account all aspects of the environment in our decisions and activities.

3. Managers are expected to set a good example. They inform their staff about the measures of environmental protection introduced in the company and encourage them to adopt a responsible, environmentally conscious attitude at their workplaces.

4. The environmental compatibility of our manufacturing processes as well as the product themselves is being constantly improved by taking into account the environmental aspects at the early stages of product planning and development. Such developments are always based on state-of-the-art technology. The aim is to find economically acceptable solutions.

5. Our processes, actions and methods are checked for weaknesses. Emergency plans are drawn up for activities that could have a major impact on the environment.

6. The amount of waste, residual materials, waste water and harmful emissions is reduced to a minimum. Our suppliers, service providers and subcontractors working on our premises are included in our efforts to protect the environment.

7. The environment is taken into account when selecting methods of transport. This applies to deliveries to our customers, shipments from our suppliers and also to business trips. Environment-friendly means of transport are supported for the journey to work.

8. The progress of company-internal environmental protection and its effects on the local environment are monitored and evaluated. Environmental audits are performed at regular intervals to ensure the success of our environmental activities and compliance with all legal requirements.

9. We keep our customers informed as to how our products should be handled, used, recycled and taken to an approved location for proper disposal.

10. We cooperate with local authorities, other companies and the public on the basis of mutual understanding and trust. Our environment manifesto is published regularly. It contains information about the impact our operations have on the environment.
